Smarter Energy Visibility for Complex Environments

How improved data visibility enables more informed operational decisions and measurable efficiency improvements.

Limited visibility across fragmented energy systems

The organisation operated across multiple buildings and systems, each with its own metering infrastructure and reporting approach. Energy consumption data was siloed across individual systems, making it difficult to establish a unified picture of performance. Without consistent, real-time visibility, operational teams were unable to identify where energy was being consumed inefficiently or where intervention would yield the greatest return.

Reporting was largely reactive, relying on periodic utility bills and manual reads. This created a significant lag between consumption events and any corresponding analysis, reducing the potential for timely optimisation.

Structured deployment of sensing and software intelligence

The approach centred on deploying a connected sensing layer across the physical environment, capturing granular energy data at key points within each building system. Rather than replacing existing infrastructure, the sensing technology was designed to complement what was already in place, extending its capability without disruption.

This hardware layer was combined with a software platform capable of ingesting, normalising, and presenting the data in a structured format. The aim was to create a single, consistent view of energy performance across the entire estate, enabling operational teams to move from reactive reporting to continuous, data-informed management.

Integrated sensing and analytics platform

Salient Sense® hardware was deployed across the environment to capture real-time energy consumption data at sub-system level. Each sensor was configured to report at intervals appropriate to the system being monitored, providing a balance between granularity and practical data management.

Salient Vision® provided the analytics layer, processing incoming data and surfacing performance insights through structured dashboards. The platform enabled pattern identification, anomaly detection, and trend analysis without requiring specialist interpretation. Salient Synergy managed the integration and deployment, ensuring alignment between hardware positioning, network connectivity, and software configuration.

Measurable improvement in operational awareness and efficiency

The deployment provided the organisation with a level of energy visibility that had not previously been achievable. Operational teams gained access to real-time performance data, enabling them to identify inefficiencies that had been invisible under the previous reporting model.

Within the first operating period, several areas of unnecessary consumption were identified and addressed, contributing to a measurable reduction in energy costs. More significantly, the platform established a foundation for continuous improvement, with performance trends now tracked and reviewed as part of standard operational practice.
